(The difference between f2p and patron status is in your ability to hold property, which becomes negated if there is a guild house or if a patron puts a house down for you). I tend to agree, but this is the 3rd or 4th article with the same players and same stories. One was by DC Fontana, not known for holding grudges much.

(and I agree that Gerrold gets toxic at times)

I agree, I think it might be wiser to wait and see what the final implementation will be like when Delta Rising goes live. The way things appear on paper are often not an accurate representation of what they're like in the game. I've also found that the way Cryptic presents some of the information is sometimes confusing (to me, at least), so all of this might just be a case of them not conveying the new upgrade system as simply as possible.

Personally, I think the T5-U sounds more like a tier of its own that's parallel to T6, rather than something that's halfway in between or in any way obsolete. That's just my perception based on what I've read so far, but I could certainly be wrong.

T6 ships dont get an 11th till they eventually get fleet upgraded to begin with it will be 10.

Also gravitos the T5-U ships will have scalling hull up to level 60 just like T6

In the past year several articles have appeared discussing some of the issues going on behind the scenes in TNG, et al. This is the first i've seen from a major player in the first seasons.
