Extending my gratitude...

April 19 2014
That's great to hear such awesome feedback for our members. Like you I have noticed Janeway's awesome behaviour since her arrival. One of the reasons I set her up as a featured member this month. Thanks for taking the time to praise your fellow fleet mates like this.

Lets not forget Datura who rocks like no other.

Extending my gratitude...

April 19 2014
I just wanted to extend my appreciation to a few individuals whom have really enhanced my gaming experience in STO. When I first started playing Star Trek, I had two things going - a great interest in a franchise that I grew up with and a void left behind by the departure of City of Heroes/Villains.

I had heard about Star Trek's development many many years ago and even followed its progression, ups and downs, and when it seemed like it was NEVER going to come out, I had the distraction of City of Heroes until the latter was shut down. I made my way to Star Trek Online and I admit, I was absolutely overwhelmed by the wealth of content it provided. I developed some trepidation with the community because unlike City of Heroes, Star Trek was a cherished franchise and some of the players were hardcore 'Trekkies'. I played for a bit, joined a few teams until one evening, someone tore me a new orifice because I joined a 'normal STF' without having a 'proper build'.

I went for months without doing any PUGs and tried to get that 'proper build'. Well, I found out the hard way that you either need to have a lot of 'throw-away income' to compete or do PUGs and I was heavily discouraged from the latter. Anyway, I eventually joined Stonewall - having heard of them from friends on World of Warcraft and from a Facebook friend.

I was pretty much background noise within the fleet for months before I was approached by some members that took the time out to show me the ropes and have fun. I had almost forgotten that playing a game was meant to be fun but I was so caught up in trying to figure things out and spending money that I wasn't having much, if any fun, at all.

I'll admit, there was a few times I had asked for help but I was shut out by some members engaging in exchanging sexual innuendos or casting that elitist cloak but two members in particular really took the time out to bring me out from with in the shadows. I'd like to thank @chemistryset and @datura for really being patient with me and teaching me how to have fun again.

You guys rock and I really do, with absolution of heart, appreciate all your time and effort. I'm not usually good with expressing myself but I figured I would make an exception this time. Keep up the wonderful work and I look forward to many more events with my favorite white hair giant and caffeine-addicted captain.

Well, it's nice to know that the human race will have somewhere to go when we end up destroying Earth :P It doesn't look very pretty, though. Very exciting news nonetheless!

Think it's time to start the Stonewall Warp Drive Research and Development Foundation! (Title subject to change!)

Helm, set a course...!

Very exciting news! If only we could jet on over there and send down an away team that would consist of myself, Mr. Speck, Doctor McTrout, and three red-shirts for good measure.

NASA found an Earth-sized planet that could support life

April 18 2014

NASA's Kepler telescope has discovered a veritable bounty of alien planets, but none of them have been quite like Earth -- until now. Today, the agency announced that Kepler-186f is the first confirmed Earth-sized planet in the habitable zone of another star. In other words, it's the right size and distance from its sun to have properties similar to our planet -- namely, a rocky composition and liquid water on its surface.

The planet's discovery is the result of analyzing data collected by Kepler between March of 2009 and May of 2013. Other planets detected by the telescope were so big that they were more likely to be composed of gas, or were too close to (or far from) their sun to maintain liquid water on their surface. Even those previously spotted in the habitable zone were 40 percent larger than our blue marble. Kepler-186f, however, only differs in size with Earth by ten percent. Despite the similarities, the planet orbits its star every 130 days and receives just one-third less light than Earth.

What's more, the planet orbits an M dwarf (or red dwarf) star, which are smaller, cooler and dimmer than the Sun. Thanks to these differences, NASA considers this planet more of a cousin rather than a duplicate or brother of Earth. Don't set your hopes on crashing the couch of our newly-found planetary kin, however, as it lives 500 light years away.

Although Kepler-186f is certainly in the sweet spot, what its atmosphere is like remains unknown. Kepler doesn't have the hardware to detect if the planet has the right atmospheric conditions for good ol' H2O and balmy temperatures suitable for life as we know it. The responsibility of analyzing such concerns falls to the James Webb Space Telescope, which heads to orbit in 2018.

When can we send a probe to check it out!?

Well Danster,

All I can say is that this will be my 5th time going and it's always an amazing time. The group that appears to be going is much bigger than previous years so you get to geek out.. but Vegas style. Getting drunk with Vulcans, Orion slave boys and scantily-clad Edo ;)

Unless you have a 10K DPS Build, Gravity Well and Tractor Beam Repulsors are must have non-negotiable.

You target the other ship and activate the skill. You can set a focus on the ship and always know its distance and condition. Its good in that mission and any other protect x situation.

The beam would probably be hazard emitters, one of the several skills other than teams that can be used on other ships, other skills include transfer shield strength or extend shields.

Sorry for picking up this old topic but I don't want to start a new one and I have some questions.
I started joining queues for the Now-Win Scenario few days ago, once we made it into wave seven I guess but I am just thinking if it is worth joining some random gamers or maybe it's better to assemble a strong team, where everyone is supposed to play a role and do certain stuff?
I also noticed some ships are spreading a blue beam to the transporter - my guess is they are healing the transporter. How do you do that? I can't find anything about it, or maybe it's not healing?..
