Re: Team Up for Guild Missions

February 15 2013
Here is some more info on the upcoming changes.

A few quotes:
The guild mission system allows people in a guild to work together to unlock guild upgrades that allow them to go on missions together. These missions can be kicked off by the specific guild that has researched that mission, but once they are activated, anyone can jump in and participate to help the guild finish the mission if they wish. The missions are designed such that some components of the mission can only be completed by the guild themselves, but each of them has aspects other players can assist with as well.

There are multiple categories of guild missions that a guild can kick of. To give an example, one category is the guild rush. When a guild creates a guild rush in the world at one of the rush locations, a timer begins and the rush has to be completed X number of times within the allotted time in order for the guild to succeed.

For personal motivation, anyone who completes the rush at least once will receive a personal reward regardless of if they are in the sponsoring guild or not. Also, anyone who was in the guild that kicked off the mission receives an extra different type of reward, which can be traded in for a new category of personal guild rewards that can only be earned through the guild mission system.

Re: Update 1.7- Reputations

February 15 2013
LesleyA, I don't know how to answer your question. It all depends on how much you've upgraded your gear along the way. I haven't agreed with the majority (if not most) of the restrictions they've placed on F2P players as I believe it does absolutely nothing good for the game and just succeeds in pushing people away. And I agree with Lorenius completely in that SWTOR is indeed "a beautiful game that has been spectacularly mismanaged" from the beginning. I still subscribe because I can and wouldn't be able to function under all the restrictions. I don't know how much more they can drag the game down but according to the devs, F2P was a spectacular success for the company, if you can believe everything they write.... :(

Fleet Uniform Contest

February 15 2013
Starting today, we will now begin to accept submissions for our Fleet Uniform Contest for the next two weeks, February 14th to February 28th.

To submit a Uniform to the Contest, please follow these steps:
  1. Finish designing your uniform submission
  2. Talk to a Tailor
  3. Select the Uniform slot
  4. Click Modify
  5. Click Save
  6. Exit Star Trek Online
  7. Find STO's Screenshot folder
  8. Find the Uniform Save file
  9. Email this file to stonewallfleet@gmail.com
Upon receiving your submission, it will be inspected for locked parts, compatibility and any other details. If there are any problems with your uniform submission, you will be replied to, listing those issues. You may fix those issues and resubmit your uniform.

Please don't post your Uniform on the website yet. We'll be holding all uniform submissions until the end of the two week period. The following weekend, we'll be hosting a Fashion Show to showcase all the uniform submissions! At this time, we'll debut our submissions and those who have submitted them can take to the run way to show off their creation.

After the Fashion Show, screenshots of the uniforms will be posted on the Forums and voting will begin on the Fleet Uniform. Each member will be allowed to vote for their favorite three submissions. The Uniform submission with the most votes will be the winner.

Finding your Screenshot Folder
This can sometimes be a difficult task and will depend on your instillation of Star Trek Online and vary by version of Windows. Here are some sample locations:

Windows XP:
C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\screenshots
Windows Vista:
C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\screenshots
Windows 7:
C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\screenshots
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\screenshots

Uniform Save File
The Uniform Save file will a JPG image file that will appear to be a head shot of your character. This file contains all the necessary information for us to load an exact copy of your character and uniform for inspection.

They will generally be named Custom_Handle_Name_Headshotstyle_Default_[0-9].jpg where Handle is your @handle and Name is the name of the Character.

Rules
We have many creative and talented members in the Fleet and to keep the submission numbers under control, we're limiting Uniform Submissions to one per member.

We'll be maintaining the individual colors for Engineering, Tactical, and Science. Please include any additional coloring information in your email.

Good luck everyone!

Re: Study: Openly Gay Men Less Likely to Be Depressed Than Heterosexuals

February 14 2013
But... but... it's science! From scientists in (I can only imagine) brilliant lab coats.

Joking aside, you make a very valid point. As a man of science you no doubt understand that studies are notorious for carving out a small slice of like-attributed people and using them to extrapolate information about the human race in particular. Bad science is bad.

That said, from personal experience, I have noticed that openly LGBT folks tend to be, if not less depressed, at least less repressed and thus free of a certain weight that a lot of closeted folks carry around with them.
