STONEWALLWATCH WEEKEND - Overwatch free team up!

August 20 2018
I'll be joining for the free #Overwatch weekend, although I'm admittedly awful at the game.  If I'm the downfall of the whole #StonewallWatch team, you can't say that you haven't been warned.

STONEWALLWATCH WEEKEND - Overwatch free team up!

August 20 2018

DISCORD MEET UP
24th - 2th AUG 2018

This weekend see's Overwatch the incredibly popular team game giving us a Free to play weekend.
Its free to download from Thurs 23rd, its a few GBs so there will be plenty of time to download it in time for the weekend.

Go here to download (on the 23rd): https://playoverwatch.com

We talk in our SGN discord all the time about teaming up in games outside of our usial STO, GW2 and SWTOR.. and thought it would be fun to team up and play Overwatch as a community.

For anyone who wouldnt think its a fun game.. it is.. it is a first person shooter.. but you have a HUGE choice of who you can play by choosing any hero you like...
Its not to serious, you have fun, you wont have to worry about other players, you don't need incredible FPS responses.

In fact this game gives you choices of who you want to play...

you have a vast selection of Heros to pick who you want to take into battle.. and with them they bring there special abilitys.. each unique and really helps build a great team.
A tank..
A healer..
A Sniper
A pew pew magician
So so many to choose from!

As I said, it wont be serious.. it will just be for fun with friends here, I die an awful lot.. so im not the best.

Once you download.. jump into the "Practice Range" before you play with anyone.. and choose the different heros to practice with, and see what there unique abilitys do, this should give you an idea of who you think will be the best hero for you to play.

----------------------------------

DETAILS

hang around SGN Discord during the weekend,(Fri 24th - 27th) and look out for shout outs in teaming up in overwatch.

there are no fixed times, just whoevers about at the time and fancies a play.

Myself, @gravity and @kierix will be calling out mostly for team ups..
but if you have the game.. feel free to call out on discord too!

Dont worry if you think you wont be any good, Overwatch is all about doing what you can, plus it will be funny!

-----------------------------------

===============

ABOUT THE GAME:

YOU CAN BE THE FIRST PERSON SHOOTER:

Run right into battle destroying everything that gets within your line of sight

YOU CAN BE THE GUARD SUPPORT:

Dont like to be in the thick of it? we will always need someone to guard the base, you could choose a hero that can build a turret, or a hero that hides in the balcony with her sniper rifle taking down enemy's one by one from a distance

YOU CAN PROTECT OTHER TEAM MATES:

YOU can be a tank that will throw up a huge shield so your team mates can gather up behind you and pick off your enemy's from safety.. or barge into enemy spaces and cause confusion to break up there team

YOU CAN BE THE LIFE SAVER THAT EVERYONE NEEDS:

run along with another hero and boost his powers.. or run around to different team mates healing them with your healing beams so they are constantly in top health despite getting shot at, or create gateways to jump the just spawned team mates back into action without running all the way back.

This game you can play as any hero, after you play for a while and try out all the various hero options, and see what they can bring to a team.. and you will go into any match with confidence and you will begin to get player of the game quite a lot.

Anyone who shys away from FPS, sadly tarnised by the COD venomous playerbase... this is the game for you to see how much fun it actually can be.

here are a couple of videos that show what you can do in the game as a team..

and a little guide about Roles you can play..

===

With all this said..  this weekend.. overwatch is free!!

This is the perfect time to try something new.. among this safe community,.. get to know people, have fun.. who knows.. you may even want to buy overwatch after the trial weekend... btw.. its on sale!!!

I'm sorry I don't have the time to run a search... A notification on a comment made on a post I made a couple years ago allowed me to pull up login info from my phone so I could make this quick inquiry:

Is there a Stonewall on PS4?
If so: May I please join? My PC died years ago and I was bad at this game to begin with. Any help/advice would be 2x appreciated

Thanks in advance! 😁

Deep Space Stonewall - Colony Provisions?

August 18 2018
Saying that, Main fleets Projects closure turn rates are really good. they always get filled within 10-12 hours.
Its the Alt fleets we hgave trouble with.
DSS a single slotted project normaly closes within 48 hours
SW Legion.. is the fleet that suffers.. projects can take 3 days to fill.
Nagh ReD is also the same as legion.
(Robin and Tedhembach are troopers and buy doffs to fill them up so they close faster, hats off to them)

This is why in Legion and Nagh Red, we have stopped slotting Fleet mine & Embassy projects,.. in hopes that members would funnel all available materials into the colony.

Agreed on your Cryptic should look into a restructure of what projects require.
At least raise the Dil processing limit per day... its been the same limit for 6 years.

Hmm...I guess I never really looked all that closely at the way the system works. Seems unnecessarily complicated, par for the course I suppose. Since I don't really want anything more from the colony until Renewable Energy T5 opens up (TAC consoles), I haven't really paid much attention, and just donate what I can when I have it.

Donating doffs isn't usually an issue, but the last Phoenix event wiped out my Dil and of course donating flarks is a total "luck of the timing" thing. There really needs to be a rework of that whole system since people are usually swimming in too many flarks with no other use for them. Cryptic could really stand to boost the prices in the flarks column as a currency sink across the board. When a fleet project's entire flark cost can basically be filled by a single player's winnings from one or two STF runs, something's wrong with the pricing structure. Pretty much everyone has too many of the things. /rant

At any rate, I'll try to focus more on main fleet colony doff donations when I can.

I can wait for a 20 hour cooldown, however it's been three weeks (or more) with no colony provisions.

I'm wondering if the fleet has enough members to still be viable and support all of it's assets.

Its the more efficient way of getting you what you want... If the DSS colony has no provisions for the item you require, then it wont be able to take away provisions if you transfer to a colony map in another fleet.

Say a fleet was telling you everythings unlocked, and you beam to that flet map in hopes to buy something.
what you buy uses your current fleet provisions.
and as DSS has none it cant take anything away.

So the best we can offer and a faster way to get you your item, rather than waiting for it to be unlocked and the 20 hour cooldown is a quick transfer to a fleet that has provisions.

we've queued renewable provisions in DSS (and that has hindered the tier progression leveling).. but they only give a small amount.. but they ask for loads of dil and Boffs that never get filled.. so its a slow process, and they get used up rather quickly.... and makes you wait longer to get thoughs provisions in the stores.
so the suggestion we have, as Robin said is to ask if you can have a quick invite to main fleet and pick up one, using main fleets provisions.. and then jump back.
Its faster for you rather than waiting anymore.

We thought we would have finished the colony completly by now... but we struggle quite a lot to fill the projects with Doffs.
the fleet colony tokens and EC fill up super fast.. but the doffs remain empty.

...if DSS is missing some particular type, you can transfer your toon to another of our fleets that have them, buy what you need and then transfer back.

Is that strictly necessary? Going to the extent of changing fleets twice seems like overkill. Why not just have someone in the other fleet offer an invite to the facility, which shouldn't require any FC intervention? I thought that was kind of the point of that function in the first place.

We don't.
Until we finish fully upgrading the colony, we try to spread provisions for different things across the Stonewall Fleets. So if DSS is missing some particular type, you can transfer your toon to another of our fleets that have them, buy what you need and then transfer back.

For the past week i've been trying to buy a colony deflector, and the vendor says that it is out of provisions.

How do we resupply those provisions?

What Book Are You Currently Reading? Part VI

August 09 2018
I am currently reading Doctor Sleep, it’s the sequel to The Shining (I’m a big Stephen King fan) but I’ve had to put it down for a little bit because I know I’m not going to like the coming chapters. It’s a lot sadder than The Shining, but I am loving the continuation.
I’m also reading The Diva Rules by Michelle Visage, which is fun, camp and very enjoyable. I’m not a  “celebrity” book person, but I figured I’d give this one a go.

Holy crossovers, Batman!

August 06 2018
OK this one isn't Batman-related, but it's still a Trek actor guest-starring on an old TV superhero show and it's just too juicy to pass up.

  • René Auberjonois (Odo) played a cat burglar named Kimball on Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter.

Here's the juicy bit: the location setup of the episode ("Spaced Out," 3rd season 1979) is a sci-fi convention, which is part of a marketing gimmick by "Paragon Studios" to re-introduce a previously cancelled TV show called...wait for it..."Space Quest." Batman or no Batman, how could I possibly resist sharing that here? Unfortunately they never both clearly appeared in-frame together, but I've added a couple of screencaps to the earlier set.

First detection of a planetary-mass object beyond our Solar System

August 05 2018
They're calling it a "rogue planet;" apparently a very young gas giant that's not quite big enough to be considered a "brown dwarf" star.

Astronomers using the National Science Foundation’s Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) have made the first radio-telescope detection of a planetary-mass object beyond our Solar System. The object, about a dozen times more massive than Jupiter, is a surprisingly strong magnetic powerhouse and a “rogue,” traveling through space unaccompanied by any parent star.

“This object is right at the boundary between a planet and a brown dwarf, or ‘failed star,’ and is giving us some surprises that can potentially help us understand magnetic processes on both stars and planets,” said Melodie Kao, who led this study while a graduate student at Caltech, and is now a Hubble Postdoctoral Fellow at Arizona State University.

Stonewall's 9th Annual Pride Weekend!

July 19 2018
It was an amazing event guys! You had a lot of variety with activities and lots to do. The only negative thing I have to say (and its very minor mind you) is a few times when were set up to do ques, we ended up starting late. Not really that big of a deal but I did miss some of them because I had to bounce out and go to work. All and all, though a very fun weekend. Thanks for organizing it!
