I wonder if the ranged dps trooper could be as powerful as a ranged dps consular ??

To anyone that's played the beta or just knows for some reason, what's the actual healing ability of the trooper? I'm guessing it's much more of a buff-machine than a dedicated healer but I'm hoping for a true dps/healer hybrid. Any info as to how it compares to the consular?

This kind of detail tends to be covered by the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) testers need to sign when they join the beta. This information may be difficult to come across until the NDA is actually lifted.

Personally I plan on playing trooper or consular. I'm usually a healer of some sort in every mmo I've played. It'd be nice to have some dps ability too at the same time as healing power like the Cleric in RIFT.

If anyone's missed John Barrowman on the Chris Moyle show, there's still 5 days left to listen to/download it. :)

I don't play STO myself, just here waiting for SWTOR. According to massively there are 1400 members of this STO guild. No wonder there's always someone on.

I'm glad that they are letting us play on whatever server we want to, and hopefully we can have characters on more than one server.

As Forza said, it does make sence to have the fleet's main server be a US server. If I remember correctly, about 80% of the fleet is based in North America (US and Canada) with the remaining 20% being mostly EU with quite a few Austrailians too. This might be slightly different for the KoS though.

If there are any issues with "latency" or inactivity then having a spare alt character on a local server would make sure that non-US members don't lose any playtime. However, I've yet to log into the game at anytime of the day or night and not find another fleet member already online.

Jordan sets a course for new Star Trek theme park

August 05 2011
http://news.yahoo.com/jordan-sets-course-star-trek-theme-park-135924170.html

A huge new Star Trek-themed attraction in Jordan has come one step closer this week.

Funding worth $1.5bn has been secured for the Red Sea Astrarium, reported Abu Dhabi daily The National August 1, meaning the 184-acre pet project of King Abdullah of Jordan is set to go ahead.

The park will be located in the coastal town of Aqaba and is intended to be a family destination, mixing cultural discovery areas with high-profile attractions themed around the popular Star Trek franchise.

King Abdullah is known to be a fan of Star Trek, having once featured as an extra in an episode of the television show Star Trek: Voyager.

He's unlikely, then, to be disappointed with the Red Sea Astrarium's main attraction -- a "state of the art space flight adventure" which developers promise will raise "real-time immersive entertainment experiences to bold new heights."

For those looking for a more cultural day out, up to 17 separate attractions will feature Jordan's Nabatean, Babylonian, British and Roman influences, along with theatrical productions, night-time shows, restaurants, shops and four hotels.

Construction is expected to begin next year, according to the developers, with the opening scheduled for 2014.

Jordan isn't the only Middle Eastern country that has set its sights big this week, however.
It's also emerged that Saudi Arabia is planning to built the world's tallest tower, some 173 meters taller than the current record holder the Burj Dubai, in the city of Jeddah.

Rising over 1,000 meters into the air, Kingdom Tower will cost around $1.2 billion to construct and will feature a Four Seasons hotel and the world's highest observatory.

Re: Does anyone remember the first Star Trek RPG?

August 05 2011
I didn't play this one, but some friends of mine and I bought the old d6 system Star Wars RPG books, and we had a campaign with Star Trek stuff in it. Took a little creativity to adapt the rules for Star Trek type weaponry and tactics, but a little research into the tech manuals for the differences between the two types of technology proved quite fruitful. One on one, we figured out, the Galaxy-Class could rather easily take on a similarly sized ship outfitted with Star Wars technology. And, if we progress that, a Sovereign could probably take on a Star Destroyer, and probably demolish it.

I still have my FASA stuff. I always really liked the three books on ships of the federation, Klingon, and Romulans. They had a prolific list of ships. Those led me to Jackill's books, among other fan made tech manuals.
