Is The LGBTQ Social Scene Divided By Race And Gender?

February 19 2015
Quote by Frozenlily
When I was growing up in school all 7 gay guys in my school were white, skinny, shallow people. I hated for being the 2nd skinniest and being 1/4 Maet and I they never dated me or wanted to ever talk to me... :D lol

We had about 15 girls who were gay in our school. One is African American and dated one of my good red heads we call Brave ;D and the rest are white with one as 1/2 Navite American and 1/2 jewish.

These two girls are the only african americans and native americans in my school. I only got along with the native american one because we knew eachother since grade 5. From my perspective everyone in my city treats them equal. But when I moved out to the hill billy region of no mans land... there is older Native American LGBT that are treated sooooo poorly. I'm just like her for living in an all white place. I am very thankful my Great Grandparents are native American and I wish I could've met them to learn more. I also wish I could've grown up with different cultures than what I did grow up with. Maybe the growing up experiance would've been different for myself, and the two girls.

I think it was my saving grace growing up in the military, because I was constantly confronted with people, cultures, and ideas that were different to me. The only thing that really went under was my knowing I was gay, but having absolutely no avenue or maturity to fully explore that growing up, it formed the opinion that it was to be kept secret. It was when my father got out of the army that I first explored my homosexuality and also the first time I saw how divided the world really is, especially within the community. Sex was one thing, but it seemed somewhat a fetish to bang some white boy, or vice versa. Rarely did anything develop into a social thing. Though I find that has changed alot, alot also hasn't changed at all. And in light of all of our progress, it is easy to forget to go those two blocks beyond our 'neighborhood' to see how the folks across town are doing, if you know what I mean.

S T O N E W A L L | T I M E S

This post is to give some information on the Stonewall Times and to invite feedback on evolving the magazine for the community.

Our 5(+1 issue per) year mission
To boldly entertain, inform and bind our Stonewall community

Our charter
The Times sits within the Operations department reporting to the Chief of Operation's office but we have an independent editorial function.

We are a bunch of writers, artists, editors and copywriters who serve to create each issue with love  No Orion slaveboys/girls are harmed in the making of each issue.

The magazine complements the site forums and social media streams (Facebook/Twitter/G+) in PDF form so you can read it offline at your convenience. It forms a record of our fleet events and members for posterity and is filed in Memory Alpha's periodicals for scholarly reference.

We aim to have a bi-monthly edition each year but generally this is determined by the availabilty of our team and also contributions submitted. Contributions are open from all members of the fleet and in any subject matter area. Have a look at the various sections below (or submit a new one!)

Scientists announce anti-HIV agent so powerful it can work in a vaccine

February 19 2015
Quote by Tlek
I wonder, who is going to be the bigger problem, the religious right saying it's a vaccine to make people gay, the bug chasers saying it's a gift and not a disease, or the medical system charging some exorbitant price for it and making sure it won't be covered by insurances due to some reason they can come up with.

The FDA is going to be the biggest problem. It's going to take at least 10 to 15 years with all the red tape that has to be gone through. With the different demographics affected by HIV/AIDS these days, only the extreme fringe of the right wing would be stupid enough to say that it'll allow people to be gay. They say stupid stuff like it now so no one will really pay them any mind.

Since it'll be a vaccine instead of a "treatment", the multibillion dollar pharmaceutical industry will be slow to pick it up. But eventually a company will. They'll charge those in the U.S. hundred if not thousands for it while everyone outside of the U.S. will pay pennies on the dollar.

In a remarkable new advance against the virus that causes AIDS, scientists from the Jupiter, Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have announced the creation of a novel drug candidate that is so potent and universally effective, it might work as part of an unconventional vaccine.

I would say yes. I may not look it in my profile pic (I've got Goth face on) but I'm Latina/Brown. I've had trouble when I'm the only WoC in a support group, either a general one or a specifically trans one. Also, when I was attending Grad School in Detroit, you could literally see the divide between the white students and AA students in the campus support group.

Part of it however is that ethnic minorities have our own particular stressors unique to our communities. For example, several of my students were gay AA men and preferred to remain on the down low. There would be arguments about how they are hiding in the closet but the AA community has its own social norms that make that very difficult to do without losing one's entire family.

Another example would be the Latin side of my family's response to my transition. They will accept me as a woman, use my preferred pronouns et alia but Gods forbid I have surgery. That would be 'mutilating' myself and a disgrace.

Sorry for rambling ^_^

You don't have to worry about rambling hun  I think dialogue is important. Too often people feel otherwise, and alot of clarification goes by the wayside. As people of color, the view on this topic is unique in that we are the ones with the colored skin. So when I hear people, for instance, say that skin color doesn't matter, they fail to realize that to people that have that ethnic background, or that darker skin, it does. Our skin color represents much more than skintone.

That's looking epic, Dralthcaan!
Also, if you don't like icons on your desktop, use Rainmeter or Rocketdock.
Especially with Rocketdock you don't have any icons on your desktop, but they're still only a mouse swipe away.
Like this when I don't need them:

And like this when I do need them:

I have it all in Steampunk-style, but there are loads of different styles to choose from - you can modify it all yourself and even mix it up.
(Totally not showing off my epic desktop or anything by the way :P )

WOW all those setups are great. Guess this day and age duel/triple monitors are a must. Makes it soo much easier to look stuff up while gaming versus the tab out. I finally got my 2nd monitor end of summer 2014, get something going from Netflix/hulu and game on the other. Amazing how fast hours go by LoL

GPU suggestions?

February 15 2015
My PC froze up again last night on STO, think my GPU got too hot...
then I realised, the fan hasn't been making it's usual noisy noises...tried setting the fan speed to max and nothing...so I'm guessing it's gone and done a Harry Kim on me....need to get it Kobali'd so, is the below any good? I'm currently on a 550 so I'm guessing the 730 is a better (or more new number)

New card?

Sony Online Entertainment Becomes Daybreak Game Company

February 15 2015
Daybreak Company Update
Dear Players, Partners & Friends,

Last week we announced that we were acquired and are now operating independently as Daybreak Game Company. To better position our newly independent studio for future growth opportunities and to deliver on our legacy of making top online games, we have had to make some tough choices including realignment of resources.

Unfortunately, this realignment means adjusting staffing as well. We announced today that we will eliminate positions in our San Diego and Austin studios. We deeply value our employees and never take these decisions lightly so we’ve done our best to do what’s right for the people affected. Although extremely difficult, these are necessary actions that will ultimately drive improved results and help strengthen our company’s foundation for success. Many of us are saying goodbye to close friends and colleagues who we’ve worked with over the years, and we are grateful for the memories and all that they’ve contributed. They will be greatly missed, and we wish them nothing but the best for the future.

These reductions will not affect the operation of our current games and as mentioned above, will help better position our company for future success. As we move forward, we are committed to delivering the best online games and working side-by-side with our players to drive the future of our online games.

Thank you for your continued support,
The Daybreak Games Team

We also had the USA X-Factor where poor Cheryl Cole was given the boot after only a couple of weeks because she wasn't understandable.

I must say that I need subtitles for Dex my Dept admiral, I never understand a word he says, hes from the same place Cheryl Fernandez Cole Varscenery.

Its the Same with "Kath & Kim" a great Australian show.. that only really works in Australian mannerisms,.. which makes it funny, but the American Version didnt work at all sadly :(
