My advice to Cryptic since Delta Rising: Don't raise the level cap if you don't have the content to back it up.
Instead, they're trying to "fix" the numbers you see to make it seem like your making better progress...
When i think of the word "expansion" in an MMO, I expect for the new content to carry me all the way through to the next level cap. Sorry, but Delta Rising just hasn't delivered. Having to time-gate earned XP through Doff missions while having to repeat patrols under the veil of "oh we're tweaking the numbers" is where I call bullshit. Cryptic didn't do itself any favors with this post (if the inherent 80-some pages of rage in that thread are any indication.)
While space combat is one element that STO exceeds in, constantly having to blow things up is not Star Trek. Period.
Of course I don't expect to be able to hit 60 in a week, you have to earn. At the same time however, they have to keep the players interested for the long term.
D A Y · O N E · G U E S S I N G · O P E N ! December 1st - Door #1 Opened
Post your replies to this thread, guessing which starship is shown behind door #1 on the calendar posted above. Remember: only one guess per day! We'll announce the correct answer by the end of the day and an in-game e-mail with your holiday gift will follow!
2 4 · D A Y S · O F · S P A C E - M A S · G I V E - A W A Y ! From the Department of Fleet Resources
Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays from the Department of Fleet Resources! We're all excited for the winter holidays and in the spirit of giving this holiday season, we've decided to give away a total of 24 in-game gifts, as we count-down the days to Christmas!
This is a really plain and simple forum based event! At a random time on each and every day from December 1st until Christmas Eve on December 24th, we're going to be opening one door on our advent calendar posted below. Behind each door is a zoomed-in image of part of a starship that's been seen in either the Star Trek series, and/or in Star Trek Online. The first person to reply to this thread with the correct answer to the day's image, will be mailed an in-game stocking stuffer style prize!
Rules / how to play:
Stop by this forum thread daily
The day's starship image will be revealed at a random time during the day
Reply to this thread with one guess only, as to the class of starship shown behind the door that day (be specific!)
By the end of the day, the correct answer will be announced and the first person to have correctly identified the ship behind the door of the advent Calendar will receive a small, gifted item through in-game mail
You can win multiple days in a row, but can only guess once per day
I don't mind the progression it's the grinding that's painful or should I say the lack of variety. I wish that STO had something similar to police radio/newspaper missions that City of Heroes had. It would help the game have more of a "Star Trek" feel if you had missions in various star systems to go to. True it would be more like the old cluster missions which weren't great but they did help break up some of the monotony of Argala, ISN, CCA, New Romulus, Defera, Traelus first verse same as the first.
Also, that post was just frustrating to read. This game is in danger of becoming just like Neverwinter, which is not a good thing.
I like it! The font size is a little small for rank, imho. I made extra sure my PR rank was clearly visible in big letters! Of course, I was summarily dismissed by Dave when I requested that it be laced in gold-like boarders with the mention of how awesome and beautiful I was
your full on dyson!!! hit me baby one more time!
I´ve played your mission today again with another char (I´ve played it for the first time over three or four weeks ago and I just wanted to have fresh memories^^).
I like it how the story progresses:
You are contacted by a Starfleet admiral, which gives you orders. A colony is under attack by the Borg and your help is needed to rescue this colony. And you´re following these orders. You´re a Starfleet captain after all. But after beaming down onto the planet you´ll discover things which are just cruel... and against everything in which you believe.
Needless to say that I sided against the consortium. :) But more to that later.
After activating the first console on ESD you are asked to go to a door from where you can beam up. IF you read the text you shouldn´t have a problem to find this door (we all know that reading helps...) but there was a marker missing on the map.
First map change: Orbit of the colony´s planet. Theoretically it´s possible to progress with the mission without firing one shot. Maybe you could change that? Make it so that you only can contact the ship after you´ve destroyed all enemies? It´s just a suggestion.
Second map change: Down on the planet. You´re supposed to talk to the Dr. next to your beam in point. Meanwhile the ground troops are handling all the Borg which are around. So there´s not much to do for you and your away team.
Third map change: The next (real) fights are inside the building (3 groups of Borg).
After that you´ll beam up and have to decide to be with or against the Consortium (I decided both times against the Consortium, so I don´t have any idea what happens if you decide to side with them).
And it´s almost clear that there will be a space fight, but: the rating window pops up! Np, just drag the window in a corner of your screen and start the battle. But it would be good if finishing the mission would require this space battle.
As I´m no foundry author - just a person who enjoys to play foundry missions - I´m not sure which requirements you have to meet so that the mission becomes a spotlight mission or at least gives rewards. But I just think it has something to do - among other things - with the time you need to finish it.
I´ve played it the first time with K.E. Janeway (tac, lvl. 60) and didn´t even need 10 minutes to finish it. The second time it was with Pulaski (sci, lvl. 54) and I needed 20 minutes (well, crappy ship equipment and ground gear, lol).
But the mission has potential. I don´t think you´ll have to add more combat into it, just make sure that the players HAVE TO DO the combat (see first and second map change).
I always like missions where you have to choose options (although I wouldn´t address my commanding officer as "a damsel in distress").
I hope my review was constructive and helps a little bit. Hmmm... maybe you can contact @midnighttlc, he´s a very active foundry author - you should play his missions, it´s always fun - and maybe can help you with questions about spotlight-mission-requirements.
As a last point: I enjoyed playing this mission and I´m looking forward to more missions created by you.
Greetings, A.M. :)
Edit: One more thing: I´ve accepted the mission and after that I switched to another char bc I had to do some fleet captain stuff... when I finally switched back to K.E. I had totally forgotten where to start the mission, lol... So I had to drop the mission and accept it again. It wouldn´t be bad if you would mention the starting point in the mission´s description. :)
Played around with the fonts and text placement a little more and did a gentle blur on top of the ship between the text and the starship to make it stand out more.

So I decided to break out my GIMP skills and this is what I came up with for my own sig after 9 hours lol!
The most time consuming part was probably cutting out my character and ship from in-game images partyly because I took the pics at /renderscale 3 so they were like 7680x4320.
My main is liberated Borg and I've been flying my Borg'ified Breen Raider a lot lately (it's fairly decent if you learn how to position to exploit the 30% flanking damage). So I went with a balance between a UFP scheme with some Borg color choices.
I am loving the game. I completed my first playthrough (Human male warrior) asap as to not get major spoilers in those rare moments I happen to appear on the interwebz, but I am in my second playthrough (Kossith female mage) now at about 40 hours in and at least 15 of that are in the Hinterlands. I love it! And once more the romances are done great! Also, soundtrack is epic! (and I don't usually really notice the soundtrack, so that is saying something).
The only thing I am a bit disappointed by is that I haven't come across a particular dwarf and his son yet... :(
Is it just me then that is confused by that thread. .... Have I missed the point somewhere?
me too...my devnobabble translator exploded with that post
as with Voleron, I'm only doing DOFF missions on my remaining toons, the content isn't there for me with DR, a shame...it hasn't resonated as well as LoR did and the way they treated us with the XP stage gateways feels bad.
I'd just like to remind those people (like me), who are slowly making their way from level 50 to 60 and are encountering the experience gates that keep them from the next level/mission, to utilize their duty officer assignments. There are several DOFF missions in the Delta Quadrant that reward upwards of 1,000 skill points and on a critical success, much more than that.
Should you be fortunate enough to have a skill point boost active as well, the experience you can get from letting your DOFF missions run overnight, will easily get you a substantial way through a level.
I personally don't mind having to do a few patrols, PvE queues or Kobali zone missions until the next bit of story content, but then I like taking STO at a slower place so that I don't run out of story content quickly. That said, the DOFFing (that I'd long since set aside), has really helped me through the XP grind.
