In the last few days, this video has gone viral and the project with it.
3,214 Backers have pledged $132,821 of a $50,000 goal with 49 days to go. Pretty awesome really. I suppose that means the documentary will be made.
While I admire this project and am eager to watch the result, I find his scope to be a bit broad. It's hard to cover every part of the gay rights struggle in one documentary, unless it's 5 hours long.
For those of you who are interested, there are already quite a few good queer history documentaries out there. Two of my favorites are
Before Stonewall and
After Stonewall. The two films split queer history by one of the biggest defining moments in our history and do a great job of covering a lot of information. Another favorite of mine is
Paragraph 175 which is about the struggle of homosexuals in Nazi Germany, which includes first hand interviews with those detained and branding with the pink triangle.
