Older Star Trek Games

February 22 2013
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in playing some games from the past like Star Trek Armada 1 and 2, Bridge Commander and the Starfleet Command series.

Anyone own these games and fancy playing some at some point?

I rarely play the games un-modded due to the problems with older gamers on later operating systems.

One game I really do miss is Star Trek: New Worlds.

One of the few times Star Trek went into an RTS type of environment.

Of course modded Kobayashi Maru for Bridge commander or Fleet Ops for armada 2.

I loved and miss Armada 1 & 2 and would love to play them again. Also Birth of The Federation. What is the program that allows you to play it on a more current iteration of Windows?

For the games which no longer have multiplayer support hamachi can usually be used to network everyone together for some pew pew fun :)

I know it's not a multi-player game, but I still have a copy of Star Trek: Invasion (the space combat fighter for PSOne)...

Is that the Mirror Universe one with the voices of George Takei and Walter Koenig?

I love Birth of the Federation, but apparently the game doesn't work with windows 8. So I have to say good bye and deal with not being able to play that until someone can come out with a mod or something...

In 1996 or 1997, I was at a friend's house and got to play one of the first Star Trek CD-ROM games. For all I know, it was just called "Star Trek"--I don't know the name of it and I wish I knew. It was TNG. The game wasn't thought out very well. There was this one point, after which I'd been playing maybe three hours, that I was supposed to plug some kind of battery into a computer console, but the battery, which I had picked up from an earlier mission, burnt out and I was supposed to replace it, and I went everywhere I could in the game and could not find a replacement. I was supposed to have done something where it didn't burn out, and when I failed, it seems the game could not be completed. I especially remember that on one of the planets, the species were anti-male and the looked like baboons wearing bracelets.

If anyone knows the name of this game, I'd greatly appreciate it, thanks!

@SirNataan:

Sounds like Star Trek: A Final Unity. I believe the mission you are speaking of was where you went to Morassia and had to do a lot of investigating. Overall, it was about the Chodak empire and the Unity Device. For the time period and it being a DOS protected mode game, it had decent graphics. I have a copy someplace here at home...but it only runs in a DOS environment. You can also download DOSBox 0.74 which lets you play it inside Windows. There are still versions out there on eBay people are selling...you can probably find a copy on a torrent site too. That's where I got my copy...lost my original.

I'm watching video of A Final Unity, and this is not the game I played. There were no character voiceovers, and the graphics are too good.

And yet, the chronology indicates this has to be the game.

I remember you had to put together away teams, and for the baboon planet it was smartest to put together a female-heavy away team--Crusher, Troi, redshirts.

Yes, this is it! I found the baboon lady!

I do still have Armada 2... I could potentially be convinced to play it again :)

On a side-note, anyone remember these? I spent a lot of time playing them as a kid!

Yup I played the Star Trek 25th Anniversary on my Super Nintendo I loved that game! Especially when you got to reenact epic battles like Kirk vs. Khan or Kirk and Sulu vs. General Chang.

I have a total weakness for 4x games.

And yes, even if it's a particularly uninspired MOO knockoff, I still put in endless hours in it.

There's a couple of fan sequel projects in awfully early stages of pre-pre-Alpha. The prettiest, by far is http://www.startreksupremacy.com/">Star Trek Supremacy.

Note that it hasn't been updated since, oh - 2009. So someone get that man a Red Bull.

When you guys said "old Star Trek games", I thought you were talking about Star Trek for the Atari 2600, which I had when I was 14. All this is new. LOL.
