Project Runway Season 12!!!!!!!!!

Here we go again...

Alexander: Cute dress, not terribly original in the silhouette, to me. Still, hard to ignore the fact that his star has been rising.

Alexandria: WHAT? Ugh. Weird cut on the bodice. The skirt looks elementary.

Bradon: Very cute. Not sure if I'm sold on the extra-long skirt given the challenge.

Dom: TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. You are officially the luckiest person on planet Earth. I'm not sold on the asymmetric neckline, but asymmetry seems to be part of her signature.

Helen: UGH. 1960's, to me.

Jeremy: He was sent home because he doesn't know what "contemporary" means.

Justin: I have mixed feelings about this. I think he saved it from what it was going to be, but it's pretty safe. The seam and drape along the top front look weird to me.

Kate: This dress made her model (anyone else pissed off you can't pull up a list of the NAMES of the models?) look pregnant. An empire waist isn't going to work for every single look, but Kate seems not to know this.

Ken: WHY IS HE STILL HERE? The first look was a nightgown. When he got the chance to redo it, it was vaguely better--it would have been a lot better if he had secured the back of that draped bit to the middle of the neck--as it was, it made the back look weird.

At this point, it seems to be as much about attitude as skill, and the worst attitudes were Jeremy (smug) and Ken (diva).

KEN MUST LEAVE NEXT WEEK! And I'm guessing he will, because I think he's going to clash with his fan/model.

Also, remember how when this all started I figured Bradon would win it all and Dom would be in the top three? This week (thanks to the good graces of the judges with Dom) would seem to bear that out.

I think my depression is starting to affect me enjoying this show. That or it's just not been good lately. I did not like Bradon's dress. It looked heavy and stiff. I am very glad Dom won with the second dress. Although I thought the first dress was cute too. Ken should have gone home. His second attempt looked like something I'd see on a drunk girl at the end of the night. Jeremy's first look was not bad. His second look was beautiful but too simple. Next week looks interesting.

As much as I hate Ken, I think the right person went home. I hated Jeremy's first look - the pattern of that fabric choice was not at all aesthetically pleasing. Ken at least picked a nice-looking fabric. I wouldn't have even bothered with the "do-over" because I thought his was the worst of the lot. Jeremy's second attempt was a bit better, although I agree it was probably too simple.

I thought Ken's second dress made his model look like a hooker. Did anyone else find it funny that he chose Kate as his assistant, then ignored her advice when she tried to tell him the length was too short? I really hope he goes home next week.

Dom's second attempt was the best look of the night. I wish that had been her first attempt, haha. :) I'm still not entirely sold on her being in the overall top three yet. She definitely has the potential, but she's been faltering a bit the past couple of challenges. We'll see if she's pull herself out of this little rut for good now that she has another win under her belt.

I wasn't a huge fan of Alexander's dress. Was a bit surprised he landed in the top three this week. I will say that I really like the pattern he picked for his fabric, but I didn't like the cut of his dress that much. Personally, I really liked Justin's dress this week. I would have place him in the top three over Alexander.

Next week appears to be fan week. Will be interesting to see what happens if the designers have to use the "super fans" as their models. Could be a real game-changer. ;)

Ding Dong The Bitch Went Home! That dress looked like a burlap sack with leather handles. Helen's fan looks amazing! What a transformation. Justin did a great job too. He made the outfit one of a kind. And I am glad he was able to talk about it on the runway. I think Alexander should have gone home too. Something unfinished does not meet the requirements of the challenge. I was not a fan of Bradon's outfit. The shiny stuff reminded me of reflective tape. Alexandria's outfit was just a mess. it looks like she got dressed in the dark.

Alexander: Yes, time management. A suit is crazy difficult to pull off in this time frame. He should have edited his original idea with something he could pull off in the allotted time. And what the freak was up with that shoulder? But, he was safe, and for good reason...

Ken: His look was better than Alexander's. I appreciated that his model stood up for him in terms of the choices he made and suchlike, since he was trying to go off what she wanted. But, yes, the combination of fabrics was weird (he could have chosen a pairing that would better sell the green) and the fit was awful. Still, it was better than Alexander's, but he was sent home because they were bloody sick of his temper tantrums. When they had to "isolate" him in his own bedroom, that was pretty much the clincher. Glad he's gone. But maybe now he's had the chance to reflect on the experience and grow up a little bit.

Alexandria: The look didn't flatter her figure, that belt-deal looked weird, the jacket is cropped funny. It's like, she had all the right fabrics but put them together entirely the wrong way. She remains the queen of the weird silhouette.

Bradon: Pretty good. I agree that the plasticky material should have been leather.

Dom: Anh. It feels a bit dated, as have a few of her looks.

Helen: Possibly my favourite look of the entire competition so far. With the cut and all, she looked like Hilary Swank on the runway. I still don't like this fraying-lace look that she tends to use, but I'm guessing it's a thing these days.

Justin: This design is a reflection of who he is: a thoughtful and innovative designer who listens to his client and makes it all come together. So glad to see him in the Top Three at last. And as I look around online, it seems a lot of people think Justin was robbed of a win.

Kate: This feels busy, way too many things going on.

Next week's challenge looks like fun.

I did not like Dom's dress. But the judges loved it. Justin's dress was a bit of a mess but his print was amazing. Alexander was doomed from the beginning. His attitude was poor from the start. I did not like his outfit. Bradon did an okay job. I did not like how he used his print though. the jacket was beautiful but the dress was just a blah black. Helen's outfit kinda put me to sleep. It reminded me of the 4th of July. Alexandria's was a mess, but she was safe so they must have seen something in it. Kate's dress was awful. It looked like 3 outfits mashed together. I am currently watching the judges critique. Oh they better not send Justin home! Kate's and Alexander's were way worse. They said they liked the top part of Justin's dress. They didn't say they liked anything about Kate's or Alexander's. Well I am not surprised about Alexander or Kate. I am really sad about Kate though because she had done so good before. I think that should have taken that into consideration. Happy that Justin is still here. :-)

Kate: What on earth was she thinking? Like, none of those elements went together at all, and they weren't sewn together well.

Alexander: I actually liked his print. And I liked the idea of his dress--not loved--but there was nothing that said he couldn't do something more high-concept, which I thought this was. The trouble was the print and the dress didn't go to together at all. But he should not have been sent home, because...

Alexandria: All the way up and down the runway, I just kept saying, wtf, wtf. It looked like her model rolled around in glue and then jumped in a box of scraps. How the hell was she safe? This is going to bug me the rest of the way because she should be gone (and probably before now).

Justin: Half a good dress. And something half-good is better than something all bad. Was actually kind of shocked at how sloppy the skirt was. But everyone loves Justin so I'm glad he's still in. He's not going to win, though.

Helen: Anh. Middle of the pack. I mean, she pulled it together from how she started, have to give credit there, and she deserved to be in the top three just because of how bad the other four dresses were.

Dom: Loved the look. But this challenge played entirely to her strengths so it's unsurprising she won.

Bradon: Another look I loved. Dom and Bradon at the top this far in the competition. Hmm...

And then there were five. Dom, Bradon, and Helen are no surprise at all, nor have they been for some time. I'm mildly surprised Justin's in the top five, since I think he's only had top-three once or twice, but I think that's in part because many of those who have gone out to this point have been subpar, and he is par if nothing else. Alexandria absolutely does not deserve to be in the top five, especially since Alexander's dress was better than hers. Plus, he's had a couple of top-threes recently, whree as she's been lingering at the bottom the second half of the show, and she almost literally turned in a pile of crap in this episode.

Looking forward to how the remainder of the series shapes up.

Omg, I love you. I was thinking the same thing as I watched it. How the hell was she not sent home?!? That dress was a train wreck!

I disagree on Alexander's dress though. I hated his as well. It started out okay when he was designing the pattern (although, as my friend pointed out as we were watching the episode, his design wasn't "lattice" no matter how many times he called it that). But it was just downhill from there, and then "wtf"-ville when he decided to add that awful white cross effect.

I'm actually kind of pissed that Kate went home. Granted, her dress was atrocious, but imho so were Alexandria's and Alexander's. If it had been up to me, I would have had Justin safe. His wasn't great, but at least the top half of the outfit looked good. I would have then put Kate, Alexander, and Alexandria in the bottom three. Alexandria would have been my top pick to be sent home, because her dress almost made the other two look not-so-bad by comparison. If I was forced to send home a second person, I would have picked Alexander, if only because Kate is consistently a top performer who's never been in the bottom before. Alexander is inconsistent at best and has been in the bottom a few times, so I would've given Kate a free pass on this week. That being said, I'm not a big fan of the "Surprise! Two people are going home!" gimmick, so I would've been content to send home just Alexandria.

At least I agreed with the judges for the top three, so that's something, right? I still a bit pissed off though at the loss of Kate. :angry: Hopefully, I'll get over it by next week. I'll be super pissed if Alexandria makes it into the top somehow though. Heidi's inexplicable love of drop-crotch pants should not be a free ticket all the way to the top!

I read a theory that they keep people the fans can't stand for the sake of ratings. We'll watch next week begging for the one we hate to be sent home, whereas if it's everyone we like, there's less fire in getting us to watch.

Also, I need to double-check, has Kate had a win in awhile? It's mostly been the Helen/Bradon/Dom show. And Alexander has had a couple of top-threes lately, which is why I thought his star was rising.

Justin may be the most likable guy in the world, but he just doesn't match up with the Big Three.

I love Justin! I am not up to the runway yet. Had to pause. When he picked his dress, I got teary eyed too. And I loved his butterfly inspiration

Dom: I liked her avant-garde look. The transformation look was cute too. She does very well mixing patterns.

Alexandria: It looked messy and unfinished. I did like the transformation look. But then again I love upscale punk! :-)

Helen: I did not like. She put a bunch of work into it. But it was too plain. And her transformation dress was too damn plain as well.

Justin: Beautiful. When she opened it up! Lovely! His transformation dress was beautiful. I see him going to fashion week. He brought it this week.

Bradon: I almost forgot about him because I hated his dress or whatever the hell it was soooo much. It was like a white splatter. I was not a fan of the transformation dress either. It looked like cheap vinyl with a place-mat attached.

Ok so I was apparently in the minority with Bradon's look. Oh well. Good for him! :-) Dom deserved to go to fashion week. She was great all season. I was not shocked by the ending. I do not think Alexandria deserves to go. Not sure what to think about Helen. But I do love Justin and I want to see him go to fashion week! :-D

Dom: The avant-garde look, wow. How on earth did she get those prints to work together? And what a wonderful way she saved Jeremy's look. The Princess of Prints. Glad she's going--and remember, I called it.

Bradon: Loved loved loved the avant-garde look. Totally haute-couture. And I thought his "saved" look was very chic, in other words, the opposite of what he had to work with. No surprise here, either--and remember, I called it. :-D

And then the other three... They had to pick one out of the three. Helen and Justin are too evenly matched at this point. Alexandria was saved in part because Heidi likes her so much, and in part because they couldn't pick a clear favourite. Now, to break it down...

Justin: I think he's the favourite of the three remaining. He struggles with execution when under a stopwatch, but I think that now he'll have the time and space to make up for that. He's also the most innovative of the three remaining, and I figured an avant-garde challenge would suit his strengths. Of his looks in this episode, I adored his avant-garde look, and way to go for saving his own "out" look. I still think the neckline of that bodice is sloppy, though.

Helen: I don't think she's going to have the emotional wherewithal to pull off this last step. She's relied heavily on the other designers both for advice on technique and for emotional support, and I think she'll be in over her head now that she's on her own. With her looks this week, the "avant-garde" look was well made, but there was nothing avant-garde about it. Nothing fresh, nothing new. She made a really cute "saved" look, I could totally see that here in downtown Minneapolis on lunch hour (with something underneath to cover the midriff, of course.

Alexandria: Heidi's good graces can't save her forever. Now, interestingly, I liked both of her looks this week. In the avant-garde challenge, I could see her point of view well. (You kind of saw it in last week's mess, but this time around there was actually some execution.) But I wouldn't say that the look was particularly avant-garde, even though I like it. I love what she did with Miranda's pants, I loved the jacket she made, and I even loved the feathered mohawk. But put them all together, and it comes off really costume-y. No way will she get the third spot.

The Final Five, or the Final Four + Alexandria as I like to think of it.

Dom: Overall, I liked hers the best when taking both outfits into account. I would've never thought those prints would work together, but she pulled it off. And that jumpsuit was crazy. :) Then on top of it, she put Jeremy to shame with her re-design of his losing outfit. Just fantastic.

Bradon: I thought his avant-garde gown was amazing. I'll admit I had my doubts up until the runway, but I was greatly impressed when I saw the finished product. His re-design of Sue's dress I didn't care for so much though. He took a big risk picking an "unconventional challenge" dress, and I don't think it paid off. The dress didn't look bad per se, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Nina seemed to be moved to tears over of it. But regardless, he clearly deserved his ticket to fashion week.

Justin: It got very emotional when he picked his losing dress. But I'm so glad he got the chance to make that over. And that it turned out beautiful. His avant-garde dress was beautiful as well. I was hoping he'd be picked as the third, although even before the latest gimmick, I'd had my doubts because he hasn't been consistently that strong throughout the season.

Helen: She just had a mediocre week imho. I'll give her credit for managing to salvage something out of the original "cocoon" concept. I did like the dress itself, but I wouldn't have called it avant-garde. The re-do of Kate's dress was her stronger piece, although I wasn't crazy about it. I did appreciate it more after the judges did their close-up examination of it.

Alexandria: I didn't like her avant-garde design. She uses that technique too often, imo. The whole thing didn't look to me like it was very well put together (although I'll allow that it was better than last week's dress, but not like that's a high bar to hit). I thought her re-design of Miranda's losing look wasn't great either. I generally like punk, but I thought this looked like something that someone would put together for a Halloween party they were attending. She did a nice job on the pants at least. And I got a nice chuckle from Zac's "Avril Lavigne backup dancer" comment.

Well, clearly I'll be rooting for Justin for the third spot. I could live with Helen as a finalist if she makes it though. She's definitely had her strong moments this season, but has pulled out some real clunkers too. It'll be interesting to see how her collection turns out at least. Heidi needs to just get over her Alexandria fetish already. :P I'll be upset if she gets pushed through by Heidi into Fashion Week.

Frickin Heidi! She is the only reason Alexandria is going to fashion week. Justin was the only one that deserved to go. His collection will be amazing. His 3 looks were awesome. And as always, he told a story and it was beautiful. Poor Helen. I think she got stuck in her own head. Alexandria's "punk" looks were yawn yawn yawn. They made me think of some rich suburbanite's idea of what punk should be. And the colors put me to sleep. At least Helen had some color.

What can we say, the power of Heidi. I think Alexandria's were better than Helen's. Helen got so caught up in the art that she forgot about the practicality necessary in design. Alexandria's were fashionable--and the best work she's done--and I actually like them. But I don't love them, because, although they're very fashionable, they're not *innovative*, which is what showing at Fashion Week should be about. A top competitor should be offering a new vision. That's what Justin accomplished. I've thought for a long time that his trouble in the competition was that he doesn't work well on a tight schedule. Once some of those constraints were removed, he was able to work at the calibre he's capable of.

We'll see if my very early prediction of Bradon winning it all holds true next week. Though it's going to be tight between the top three (and yes, we all know it's three and not four). Wouldn't it be a shock if Justin, who never won a single round, won the whole thing.

One more thing: It bugs me to no end that they pretend the audience doesn't know that all five (and then some) show at Fashion Week--it's just that they don't all show a full collection and they don't all compete for the top prize. Maybe that worked the first few seasons, but now it seems like it's dumbed down for a smart audience.

Hmm, think this season's "twist" is that it will end with co-winners, after Heidi defiantly insists that Alexandria's collection is really cool and edgy? :P

I'm kidding, of course, and yet I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. I know, reality television isn't really "real," but it just gets irritating when the judge who's also the Exec Producer picks a favorite contestant and then blatantly carries that person through the competition.

I'll try and stop ranting about this though and focus on other things. Poor Helen. I liked her in general but her collection pieces were really underwhelming. I think it may just boil down to inexperience. She still has a lot of growing to do as a designer, but at least the talent's there. Justin's collection pieces were really awesome, and I loved how they tied to his story. I'm thrilled that he was the clear winner this week and that he'll be competing in the finale. :)
