Website Update

August 28 2016
As some of you may have noticed, we've been having issues with our website on and off for the last month. Our sister sites for Knights of Stonewall and Stonewall Vanguard remain inaccessible and I've had to disable some features to keep the site working. While I've been planning to update our website for sometime, this has accelerated my plans. For the last two weeks, I've been working full-time on getting us ready to do so.

I've taken great care to maintain as much of our data as possible, I've decided to trim that fat here and there for efficiency's sake. Photos that have been viewed less than 5 times won't be migrated over. Private messages older than two years won't make the cut either. Neither will any of the videos. In the event that something important to you is not transferred over, I'll be maintaining a local copy for some time so just contact me and I'll send you what I can.

The new site has been built from the ground-up and will be very different from the current site. While some features that we're used to will be gone, there are lots of new features that I think you'll love. The new site features a much more modern platform that we can build a future on. Slowly, I'll be able to add back in features that are missing as well as new and exciting ones.

My current goal is to take the site offline on Monday, download the necessary data and begin migrating everything to our new website. The migration should hopefully only take a day or so. A big part of that is actually migrating the data that's on our current site, such as user accounts, profile data, photos and messages and rearranging it to fit the data structure on the new website.

So far in my tests, that takes about 6 hours. After that, all that data has to be uploaded to the new server and I'm not sure how long that will take. I'll be sure to post on social media and hopefully send out an email notification once its up.

Hmm, if it could be a queue load issue, maybe I'd be better off bringing my Ferengi alt in his D'Kora. The line between "pirate" and "shady merchant" is rather blurry anyway because deep down, everyone's a Ferengi. (284th Rule of Acquisition)

My only toon with Mirror boats is a KDF Romulan. Is cross-faction going to be possible, or no?

PS: I had forgotten my Klingon also has one Mirror boat. Obviously the same question applies.

Sure you can show up as as KDF.. but as I said in the OP.. from last years Reflection day, I noticed we did have some trouble getting the KDF into some queues with us with the bigger 20 player maps we choose so we could all play together, and it caused some things to slow down to fix the problems/find solutions.

Maybe I can send you a fed mirror ship? or have you got a Risa ship.. or an event ship you think would suit a space pirate/bounty hunter.. that you could build up?

But of course its completely up to you, if you want to come as KDF by all means, do so :) but some queues that are planned you may have to sit out if its cool with you.

I don't mind it that much, but I truly despise when someone wants to ax me a question. There's no need for such violence.

[Controversial Pet Peeve] So.. i made a new thread

August 26 2016
I have to admit being guilty of starting sentences with "So". That being said, I use it more in a text message or IM context than I do when writing emails or any business document. I find it more conversational.

Here are a few others:
The trailing "so" in conversation drives me bonkers. For example (and a poor one at that) - "I really have to get to the store and buy groceries...so....." It's as if it's up to the listener to finish the sentence or statement themselves.

Conversationally, starting a sentence with "I mean" when used prior to any other statement being offered that the speaker needs to clarify, also drives me loopy - "I mean, I really have to get to the store and buy groceries...so...".

Not using adverbs correctly. It's not "You need to eat healthy." It's "You need to eat healthily." It's not "I need to drive quick". It's "I need to drive quickly". My SigO and I have taken to yelling "ly" at the t.v. when we're watching shows and the dialogue doesn't use adverbs correct. Heheheheheheheheh...(correctLY).

Lastly, and this is more of a societal issue that I think television and film could be much better at doing - saying please and thank-you. When you next watch t.v. pay attention to how many missed opportunities there are for saying please and thank-you when characters interact. It starts to play an integral part in the way that the rest of society interacts with each other and being polite seems to have fallen off the radar.

Thanks for letting me rant. LOL!

[Controversial Pet Peeve] So.. i made a new thread

1) I actually mentioned the overuse of the word "So" when people begin and end their sentences just last week at work. It's a horribly overused thing, especially the people from our corporate office in Pittsburgh. "So I talked to John, and when we were done the takeaway was for me to ask someone else. So..." yeah, so..... what? So then I went and baked a cake, bought a car, quit, ... , what?

This is exactly what I mean! :P
Im hoping that people will notice this now that we've brought it up.

[Controversial Pet Peeve] So.. i made a new thread

Here are 3 things that have been on my radar:

1) I actually mentioned the overuse of the word "So" when people begin and end their sentences just last week at work. It's a horribly overused thing, especially the people from our corporate office in Pittsburgh. "So I talked to John, and when we were done the takeaway was for me to ask someone else. So..." yeah, so..... what? So then I went and baked a cake, bought a car, quit, ... , what?

2) My personal peeve is the word 'basically'. I detest it. There's no use for it. If you combine it with the word "so" it's even more annoying. "Basically what it means is that you need to paint it with 2 coats and not 1." Ok, do I basically have to do that or do I really need to? It's like the person's trying to do you a favor by making it sound simpler or that there's more info he/she knows but isn't sharing. Just tell me what it is.

3) Not a peeve of mine but I notice it all the time. When a person uses the word "they" to try and convey a singular form of a pronoun instead of using he, she, or he/she. Although it's somewhat grammatically acceptable, it is just stupid. You can google "singular they" and find a lot of stuff about it. It just makes me think the person is lazy. "A person needs to vote their conscience." It just sounds so much better as "A person needs to vote his or her conscience."

3) Anybody named after a country.

Legends of Aldara

August 26 2016
So, among the many things that I enjoy doing one of them is writing. I actually wrote a fantasy novel with a friend of mine and made it into an ebook. Now, be forewarned, it is two indie authors who just write for fun so there are bound to be some formatting and grammar errors. Try as we might we just can't seem to catch them all. Anyways, its a fantasy series that follows the exploits of a young prince in a made up world called Aldara. We've turned it into a trilogy and the first two books are up on Amazon and Smashwords right now. I'll put the links below. Enjoy!

1st Book in the series: Legends of Aldara: Omens

2nd Book in the series: Legends of Aldara: Birthright
