Other MMORPG Experiences

Re: Other MMORPG Experiences

I played EvE Online for about 2 years.
Absolutely loved it. It was awesome.
Very vast, very open, very free form.

Got too busy in real life though and decided to put it down for awhile.
Been thinking about picking it back up, until I tried out City of Heroes.
Prolly gonna play that for awhile until I try out all the stuff that it'll let me do.

My first MMORPG was Final Fantasy XI. I'm a big FF fan but never played multi online games before. I thought it would be worth giving it a shot. That is when my Ex and I learned about CoH so we both switched. It was a fun game but eventually we switched to WoW but I stopped playing a few years back. Now I'm waiting for STO........

Currently playing non MMO games, but I have played

FFXI - decent but felt more like a chore after a while
COX - still play off and on
WOW - was just thoroughly unimpressed, didn't get into it at all
Phantasy Star - was so confused at the start, i spent a few hours then put it away and never looked back

Currently playing CoH/V. It's my first experience with an MMORPG and I love it. Spend a LOT of time in front of the computer playing, much to the dismay of my hubbie. Looking forward to this game, as well as Cryptic's other property, Champions Online. Heh, at this rate my hubbie will never see me again ;)

the IT guy at the last job I had mentioned that EVE Online was spectacular. Is it something I should look into before this comes out?

I loved EvE Online.
It's very sandbox like. It's very free form.
The learning curve is harsh. A lot of times the only way to understand something is to go into the forums and find a player guide about it.
I'd say it's worth checking out, but I'm biased.
If you have any questions about it, feel free to hit me up.

I played EVE Online for a while and quite liked it. But the first MMORPGs I played were the old text-based MUSHes, I still play them at the moment, just not as much as I used to. :D

I used to play SWG online...really liked it, but wow...lots of pervs on there if you play as a girl ;)

I currently play Pirates of the Burning Sea and Lord of the Rings Online...enjoy them both. I'll be dumping them when STO is released though hahaha I plan on having my Starfleet career accelerate as fast as I can get it to! I wonder what the XP cap will be in STO.

I used to play LOTRO but lost interest in it. Same for WoW. Now i'm playing Warhammer Online and i must admit, its an awesome game.

I've tried a ton of others, EQ, EQII, SWG, Vanguard etc but tend to burn out after a while. I absolutely loved SWG until SoE in their narrowminded vision, destroyed it with first the Combat Upgrade and then horror of horrors, destroyed my character and put in place those stock stupid ones.

My first MMO was CoH. I am a four year vet there, but let my sub lapse in July.

I've tried to play WoW... but it isn't interesting enough for me to stick with a character for long.

I have Guild Wars.. it's a BEAUTIFUL game... but boring.

I'm not currently playing any MMO's.. but I recently bought Spore, and am having fun with that.

I plan on getting Champions Online when it is released, see how it plays, etc. Then will probably drop CO for STO when it comes out.

It's really fun. Like surprisingly fun. The strategy could be bit more indepth, but everything else is amazing.

Just make sure your computer can run it, cause mines a year old and I have to set everything to Low.

Yeah, I'm loving it. I've been waiting for it's release since a friend of mine showed me an article about in in '04.

I am a little disappointed that they 'dumbed down' or 'kiddi-fied' the graphics, as some of the original concepts were really cool. But, I do understand the reasoning behind it.. so it isn't a game breaker by any means. If yo--- er your kid  is interested in it... it's worth it..

And yeah.. I'm getting a new vid card next month so that I can up my graphics... lol

Hi

Sounds great then. Looks like i'm going to buy a copy today and we'll see how it performs. I have a powerful gaming machine so running it shouldn't be a problem, but i'm going to check the specs just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the heads up guys. My son's are going to be overjoyed when they can play it. Obviously, as a parent, i have to "test" the game first to make sure its suitable.

I guess I'm not like the rest as far as MMOs are concerned. :/ I enjoy playing WoW and that's the only MMO I kept playing for more than a couple of months. I did not enjoy CoH/CoV, which is something that worries me because I may not like STO if it will be similar to CoH/CoV. Basically, almost all of the missions were instanced and repetitive ("get into a warehouse/hideout and kill all the bad guys inside" over and over). Maybe I just didn't play enough to enjoy it.

I also played Warhammer, but my computer is pretty old so the game didn't run well. I'll probably play a bit more of WAR once I upgrade my computer.

I've had my share of them. I beta tested The Realm Online & Ashteron's Call but never got them when they came out (too young for a credit card.)

Played Galaxies for a little while and was a Musician on Coreilla. Had more fun in the Cantina talking and playing music than doing missions and combat, the grind drove me nuts. :(

Got WoW when it came out and have been playing it the past 4 years. But I am ready to ditch it for STO, the only reason I still have it is because I play with friends.

I tried a demo of EVE but I realized what a steep learning curve it had and decided to pass on it, WoW was sucking up enough of my time back then. lol

World of Warcraft was my first MMO and got my sucked in to the proverbial sandbox

Since then, I tried City of Heroes for a little bit, then i got into EvE. Both are great games, I loved the vastness and depth of EvE, not to mention the visuals were absolutely stunning.

But most of my friends are on WoW for the moment so I've played that mainly since 2006. Though i do have some potential recruits that may carry over when Star Trek Online drops. I'll be sure to refer them here. :)

Fun times! :woohoo:

I agree with you...I never got that either...other than I think it is a "kids" game which may be why it is so alluring?

Re:Other MMORPG Experiences

Yeah i can't really explain how or why i, myself, got into it. I think i was just really amazed by the concept of an MMO and never had that level of gaming experience prior to WoW. I was never even into swords and wizardry and such, but i could still more/less immerse myself in the fantasy of it all. then my friends came on board with it and it just made for good entertainment.

Then i heard STO was in the works again after it was adopted by Cryptic. I can only imagine the possibilities with my favorite sci-fi franchise!! :woohoo:
