Lord of the Rings Online

January 21 2010
Wow,, I am surprised there is no post here for Lord of the Rings Online. This is a great MMO. It has excellent Devs, a fantastic community, well, except for a few, but otherwise just great.

If you decide to give LOTRO a try, login to the Landroval server. It is the unofficial gay server. It is also the roleplay server but don't worry, you don't have to roleplay if you don't want. While you are there look up any Knights of the White Lady member. KWL is the largest LGBT friendly guild in LOTRO. I would give you my char name, but I have 16 different toons and I never know which I will be playing at any time. Right now it is mostly either Dargino and Clandorid or Fricky and Frackie. :) :)

I do currently play LotR:O (Lifer there too), unfortunately I'm stuck on Brandywine after following my old SWG guild there. Also unfortunate is the fact that most of them had already been hypnotized by the mediocrity of WoW so they all eventually wandered back there. I obviously agree that it's a great game (wouldn't be a lifer otherwise). I still log in to do the occasional skirmish, but with my free time being drawn between it and ST:O lately, ST:O wins out unless the server is down or I'm otherwise obstructed from logging in.

Destinii and I both play, but we play on Elindilmir. Maybe we'll start a character or two on Landroval.

I play on Brandywine too, I used to be big into doing raids, but haven't had the time as of late to get my main up to 65 and sadly I think I'm short 20 radiance to qualify for most raids now. But it is an awesome game, I loved the Rift. =(

I've been playing this game since shortly after release. I'm on the Landroval server. I love the game: the graphics, the story line, the game play, the in game voice and the great friends I've made playing it. The only bad thing about it is the after thought in PvP. It is very restricting.

Ilyra and I made characters on Landroval today (since there was no STO).

Their names are original! Ilyra and Destinii. ::coughs:: Human Loremaster and Hunter respectively. If nothing else, it should make us easy to find in game. :)

LOTRo was my first MMO and I played on Snowbourn. I left it after Moria coz I got sick of the constant runs for Radience gear, though I hear its not as bad now.

I am still there but due to having too much work havent played in a while. I play there as LilFleur on snowbourne and have to admit I havent even got to Moria yet.

On another note for those that aren't upto date with happenings there, if you have an account which you would like to keep going at some point you will need to transfer it after June 1st as Turbine is taking it back from Codemasters. No details have been released yet on how this will be done.

i played lotro long time. like 2 yaer. but now after free to play launch. the kill game game . bit by bit. for everthing that was free in the beginning i have to pay now. for quests and other stuff.
so i turned my back to lorto. it is a great example how to kill a good game.

and now codemaster give it back to turbine. and so i think lotro is on the end.

I stopped my subscription before free to pay but surely you can still pay the £10 a month and get the same as before? The quests werent free in the past, that was what the sub was for.

I'm thinkin of going back to LOTRonline to check it out while STO has its snooze fest few months

you have to buy coins now for some querst lines but it does not equal to 10 quid. you can also get by in the game without playing them though. normaly they just offer exclusive loot and stuff. I think you have other limits as well by not paying but never realy looked into it.

Hi all,

I bought a lifetime sub to LotRO when it came out (and have been playing it off-and-on since, so think I've got my money's worth!)

For Lifers (and subscribers) it works pretty much as before. A Free player can play a fair bit straight out of the gate, but would then need to spend turbine points on unlocking new areas, etc.

Lifers and subbers get 500 turbine point per month free, which you can spend on various nice things, including a few stat point boosts (max +50 to each stat so not game-breaking). You also get a few turbine points from completing deeds, and of course can buy them too.

I think it's working out pretty well for them, tho I do find the constant references to LotRO store in the game UI pretty annoying...

As for the game itself:
- It's based itself heavily on WoW.
- There's no open-world PvP so it's a much more relaxing (and generally adult) environment.
- The story is pretty good for an MMO.
- Artistic license (for the sake of gameplay) means Tolkien fans might cringe a fair bit... but it's not as bad as STO in that regard so I'm guessing it wouldn't bother most of you! :P

I still play it now and then, but obviously more STO atm...

Tried joining but clicking the Join button doesn't do anything at all on my computer. I have that trouble with some websites, my computer doesn't seem to like certain coding or something.

I figured out what my trouble was with my initial entering into the programme, but when I try to install, it tells me that it is conflict with an existing file of the same name, do I want to delete the old file, or put it somewhere else, and no matter what I do, it just pops up with the same message again. What could be the issue there?
