That was actually quite a good episode. I liked the new TARDIS interior, and that the new writer seems to be keeping the show fresh. Clara is the new mystery that will keep you watching into the next season I think. Very good. :)

Not really, just watch two episodes:

Asylum Of The Daleks (1st episode of the season) to understand more about Clara, the new companion.

and

The Angles Take Manhattan (to understand why The Doctor is the way he is at the beginning of the Christmas special.

Really really good episode though, love the new companion and the mystery that surrounds her. I squeeee'd with delight all the way through.

I really liked this episode. I thought the main story was pretty good, but it really shone in character interaction. Matt Smith's Doctor is at his best when he and his companions are allowed to be ridiculous. I about died laughing during the whole exchange when the household met the Doctor and Madame Vastra's crew.

I also really liked how the Clara was positioned as a Mary Poppins character against the Doctor's Sherlock Holmes. It made for really enjoyable banter as well as demonstration of Clara's character.

It was a good special, but I didn't quite get it. How can Clara die twice? Hopefully, they'll explain that bit later on.

This just a wild theory I have, but seeing as how his "wife" River wasn't shown and the fact that Clara has died *at least* twice centuries apart makes me wonder if they're gonna go that route and just claim it's River regenerated.

I thought about that too as their personalities are similar but River gave up her ability to regenerate to save The Doctor's life in the "Let's Kill Hitler" episode. I know River is a bit old for the current Doctor but I love how the actress plays her and hope they don't recast her.

That is a good point. River is always going on about how "clever" the Doctor is.

I dunno if any of u picked up on 2 things 1. the camera began and zoomed in on the name of the pub Clara was working "The Rose & Crown" and 2 the girl Clara was with at the end in the cementary was Melody Pond pre River I ran that scene 4 times to be sure

Sinner you clever fellow ;)

We do know that young Melodie Pond regenerated only once prior to meeting the Doctor so it can't be her. I'm very intrigued to see where this new twist will lead.

I'm sorry to say that I was not that into this special. I loved most of the character moments, but the episode as a whole didn't seem to hang together particularly well. It felt like a series of neat trailers strung together without a payoff.

Part of it was that the "threat" wasn't particularly scary or convincing. I definitely can't buy that a little 8-year-old loner was such pure evil that he would turn everyone on the planet into ice people, or create a race of ice people that would eat them all, or whatever his plan was supposed to be. And of course it didn't help that the Doctor himself spent the whole episode telling everybody that the snowmen were no particular threat.

I also feel like this script was written for the wrong Doctor. Eccleston could brood hard enough to melt Clara's peppy little face, but Smith just seems kind of listless and mopey and it even started to irritate me after a while. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE MATT SMITH. He's my favorite modern Doctor. But he's at his best doing the rambunctious Don Quixote stuff, not this weird Batman act.

That said, all of the stuff with the side characters was excellent, and I'm immediately hooked by the mystery behind Oswin. My first thought was that she might be the Doctor's daughter, but regeneration doesn't make any sense here: she's got the same face, and her bodies end up in graves. Whatever she is, I don't think she's a Time Lord.

I actually think that this is my favourite episode of Doctor Who.

But then again, David Tennant was my second least favourite doctor, right behind Colin Baker.

Whoa! That girl in the cemetary with Modern Clara was Mels? I totally didn't pick up on that. I'll have to rewatch that one.

With regard to Clara's apparently ability to reincarnate in at least three eras (Victorian England, Modern Day, and the future (52nd century?)), I have a theory on this. I came up with it after talking to a friend of mine who is REALLY into Doctor Who history. I'm not going into go into depth into it, partially because I don't want to spoil where they are potentially going with this. However, I will say that I think it has a lot to do with the 'Great Intelligence'.

If you want to know more, check the TARDIS Wiki about the Great Intelligence. Reading up on that and the Doctor's companions during those episodes, will tell you what I think is going on here.

So, I hate to be the bubble-burster on this cool theory, but Clara's friend is not Mels. I just watched the episode with my roommate (who was watching it for the first time) and paid special attention. Not only does it not look like Mels, but Clara's friend is played by a different actress. Mels was played by Nina Toussaint-White while Clara's friend was played by Sophie Miller-Sheen.

I suppose they could have gotten a different actress, but that just seems weird for such a throwaway appearance if it's supposed to mean something.

So what did everyone think of The Bells of St. John? The whole wifi plot was pretty cool I thought. Clara seems to be able to hold her own against The Doctor. With a show like Dr. Who the Devil is very much in the details when it comes to plot arcs and I was wondering if anyone else noticed this:

I liked it. Not fantastic, but not bad. It served its purpose for establishing Clara as a new companion and her dynamic with the Doctor, and gave a little more info about the current story arc.

My only gripe is that Moffat's tropes are starting to become glaringly obvious and a bit tired. It didn't help that large parts of it felt like a rehash of 'Blink'. As much as I've liked his run on the show, I will be glad to see someone else take over. I think he's starting to run out of ideas.

That said, the whole sequence with the plane was fucking AWESOME.

Honestly, it felt like a updated spin on s02e07 "The Idiot's Lantern".
