I fired a gun for the first time in my life ....

My ex from like I dunno 16 or 17 years ago has been hitting the shooting ranges and getting her concealed weapons permit and inviting me; and I was gonna go with her but I said wait, my father just got his concealed weapons permit .. I should go the first time with Daddy!

And so I did this evening. He brought 3 guns (for those that know what these are .. a 380, a 9mm and a western style 22 revovler)

I tried the 380 first cause it looked the smallest .. wholly laser blasts that thing is loud even with ear protection on. The very first shot was prolly one inch down from and one inch over from kinda where I was aiming. After that, I knew what was coming and I kept dropping the nose of my gun down when I fired lol prolly cause a little more nervous now.

We moved onto his 22 western pearl handled revovlver and I think I fell in love. Much quieter less kick, and this will sound like a gay man even though I am a lesbian .. I Loved having to self cock the hammer thing for the next shot. It honestly felt so natural to me to just draw my thumb up there and pull it back and fire again .. I was even able to cluster shoot 3-4 shots in 5 seconds while cocking this dang thing .. I love my daddy's gun that he has had for forever.

The 9mm was too much like the 380 very loud and I am not quite comfortable with either right now. Perhaps this Saturday when I go with the ex I will give one of them a go again .. but I think I may just keep learning more about 22's with clips .. but I did very much like the revolver .. maybe I was a wild west saloon madame, or a lady sherriff in the old days lol.

This target shows how poorly I shoot (I thought it was 9mm, but actually in editing it was still the 380 just a fresh or once was fresh target) those right near the rectangle the smaller holes are the 22 revovler work the first 8 rounds I ever fired on that gun .. not bad on the 22 and it kept up through other targets... even smaller ones ...

This is a cluster shot of the guns I tried tonight ... took me over 4 decades to fire a gun and was scared to death to do it .. but mama likes this pearl handled 22 lol....(I need to work on my smuggler more I think, or maybe make a gun slinger lol)

I fired my first gun last year while taking my conceal and carry permit and gun safety class. :3 Was a .40 and my very first shot was a bulls eye :D. My next few shots were just left of the bulls eye and then I started pulling down before firing in anticipation of the recoil.

My first gun is a Ruger LCP .380 but it's not as loud as the .40 or the 9mm I fired. The kick is more noticeable because the gun is so tiny and I have to wear weight lifting gloves because after a few shots it starts to hurt. xD

I can't wait til I have a little more disposable income so I can buy a baby eagle. :)

Fired a real laser pistol for a police training class was cool, the computer said I used 'excessive force'(shot him six or seven times) but the S.O.B wouldn't die, the internal affairs guy that ran the test cleared me.

Tell me that wouldn't stop you just as fast or faster than any of the other shots. :p

That's the purpose, hit'em where it REALLY hurts and stop them from coming at you...or give you time to run like hell!

yes those lower shots of mine I think would be effective but I tend to hestitate alot with the larger caliber guns .. I think its the sound getting to me being a newbie and all (not so much the kickback)..

I went shooting again today and went back to that trusty .22 not my fathers this time just a rental ruger with a very long barrel (aka more accurate no kick less sound and I can fire off a clip of 10 very accurately and quickly but loadint the clips on the 22 hurt my wittle thumb LOL, did learn a cool way to load say a 38 revovler or a 22 revolver that is making like the rock symbol with your fingers - pinkie and thumb out fingers in the barrel to push it out - hard to type but it made me like revovlers more lol)

Forgot to take a picture of the gun this time but I got my targets will post tomorrow I am very good at 21 feet on the 22, a bit less at about 35 feet.. I am feeling more confident in the 22 .. gonna try a 38 next .. keep going up then do my cwp perhaps ... at least that is the plan.

Glad I don't feel so dorky posting about shooting in a gaming forum thanks folks!

yeah after the first shot on the 380 and 9mm my dad noticed me pointing down .. I just need to get over the fear on that .. but gonna stick with the 22 for now then 38 and teach myself to get used to each type ... and now it seems there are like maybe up to 7 of us women willing to go shoot, today just 3 could make the same time but the guys in the gun shop loved it ... they were like so nice to see all you ladies smiling and happy after shooting ... (we of course then went for wings to look at scantily clad women far too young for us ROFL!)

my ex has the same problem as you described with the grip rubbing her hand a bit sore or raw ... not the thingie that comes back on firing hitting her (which I know could ruin your day and am super careful of) but just the butt of the gun rubbing her kinda raw. I may suggest a soft golf glove for her when practicing ... you might like the feel of that as well less padding and more natural feel with a golf glove perhaps.

Here is my first of my .22 targets today doing a rapid fire like 1-2 to sight then burst of 3-4 .. rinse and repeat through 2 clips of 10 each.

(and reason I am saying how I am shooting ... I figure I should only need to shoot in basically a panic mode since I am not a cop .. so its shoot see if they run if they don't fire away ... and that may not be the best philosophy havent taken any classes but it seems natural to me - but I am not aiming full bore on each shot .. I get a gauge on the center and fire rapidly -- even made my target swing a bit today to see if I could adjust to a tiny bit of movement - cause a live target isnt gonna present themselves to me lol) would love comments if I am learning to fire incorrectly based on personal experiences or expertise.

The grip doesn't rub my hand raw, it's that the LCP is such a tiny little gun and very very narrow. Every shot forces it back into your palm. With a bigger gun that isn't too much of a problem (until you start getting into things like .454s and .50s) because the broader face presses back more evenly on your palm.
Even dry firing the little thing gets a little painful.

Nice shooting Lace! It will be important for you to carry that over to the larger caliber guns. You don't want to carry a .22, all that will do is make "the bad guy" mad and unless you happen to hit a vital spot and drop them where they stand, they will come at you with intent to kill. I carry a .380 semi-auto with laser grips. Those are the items that put the "little red dot" on your target and allow you to sight quickly and fire. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you don't have to fire because "the little red dot" usually makes them think twice about approaching you. They know "the little red dot" means a bullet isn't far behind.... B)

The longer the distance you are firing the more your shots may vary. Most handguns aren't very accurate out past about 25 yards but the longer barrels can help with that. You won't want to be carrying anything with a long barrel though as they are next to impossible to conceal. Revolvers really limit the number of shots you have because they only hold anywhere from 3-6 bullets depending on the make. There are "speed loaders" for revolvers that make reloading them fairly easy but it's better having a clip that will hold more shots to begin with (at least IMHO) and when you are in a crisis situation, you don't want to have to worry about reloading.

Yeah I figure in crisis situation I would want the 15 in the clip one in chamber kinda thing, or with like the 380's it what only 6 or so depending on gun least dads 380 only holds 6.

My ex is thinking 380 for when she is riding bike trails and then I think she fell in love with some kind of sig this weekend for home protection.

Everyone says 22 no good .. but why do they still make em? for newbies like me learing or what? As for 38, well cops carried those for years now mostly do the 9mm cause more bullets ... my other friend that went shooting with us has a 38 now and her cwp .. and oddly enough it was another ex ... rofl I go shooting with my exes .. wonder if they picture me as the target .. just kidding. ( I just stay in good with the exes I guess; went to a funeral once had 9 exes there .... I used to be a bit of a slut I guess heh ... prolly shouldn't be learning to shoot with them)

.22s are mainly used for cheap target practice and for "varmint" hunting as well as for learning the basics like you are doing. Then you "graduate" to a larger caliber for personal and home protection. Although a lot of people use shotguns for home protection. It all depends what is allowed in your place of residence.

Two british men were shot dead in florida recently by a teenager with a .22. A bullet is a bullet and will still tear flesh on its way through.

Very true Angel. Any bullet can be deadly if it hits a vital spot. I apologize for making a generalization and inadvertently minimizing possible dangers. I was replying to her question about what .22s are good for.

No harm done. :)

Typical uses for .22s are often used for varmints or, well, just for fun:

Nice 50 round .22LR for fun target shooting and plinking. :3

I suppose it would be decent for home defence since it's semi-auto. You could fill the crim full of lead and any misses would be little pencil sized holes in the wall that you could fill with a little plaster. :p

I remember this toy gun I had when I was little. A Walther PPK, complete with scroll-work Walther emblem. It shot strip caps that loaded into a clip that actually loaded into the butt of the gun. As it fired, it drew the strip upwards and snipped the fired cap off causing it to pop out of the top like an ejected round.

I so want a real Walther PPK now. Trouble is they're hard to find and cost upwards of $500.
