Star Trek Into Disappointment (spoilers abound)

The Enterprise under water scene is made more absurd because they made this Enterprise a lot bigger than Kirk's. It's about as long as a Sovereign at 700m.

As for the Klingons, both DS9 and Enterprise made it canon that they were smooth forehead like we saw in TOS. And, they showed by the models at Buckaroo Bonzai's office that Enterprise was still part of that time line.

Speaking of the models, what kind of super secret organization has a model of their newest super secret dreadnaught sitting out for everyone to see? And I'm sure you can buy the model at the Starfleet Command gift shop (and you'll be able to buy the model courtesy of QMx who made those models for the movie).

The ship underwater thing - like many things in this movie the only reason I feel they did it was for special effects movie-porn. I think it'd have made little to no difference if the ship was just in orbit instead, as Jacien noted. In fact, staying in orbit would have made way more sense - how did they land the ship in the sea and be SURE no-one had seen? They were literally JUST off the coast...?! Sure they might do it at night - but no-one would be about, how would they know?! And the noise it made would have surely got someone out of bed to have a look! Silly, silly, silly idea. And also, how are the natives not noticing shuttles flying around in broad daylight?!

The Klingon forehead thing didn't fit with canon - it's annoying but I can live with it I guess. I know JJ doesn't really care if it fits with canon anyway by this point because as far as he's concerned it's a new timeline and 'we can do what we want!!!!!!' - but fans would know about the Enterprise/forehead explanation thing so as a fan it was annoying this was ignored. Know what? Leave the helmets on and let people decide for themselves if the Klingons have ridges! But no.. too late... (btw I thought the helmet idea was brill, if only for this reason - but they needn't have bothered now they've revealed what's underneath was ridges anyway!)

I liked that NX01 Enterprise was on his desk! A canon nod I really actually liked.

But I spotted the Dreadnought model on my first viewing and wondered 'what is THAT ship???' then when he turned up in it later I thought why the HELL has he got a top secret ship on his desk for everyone to see?! Nuts! It's not even a canon problem, it's just a basic problem with making sense within this movie.

And the beaming at the end... the 'moving too fast' excuse was total nonsense give what we saw Chekov do in the last film with beaming-up Kirk and Sulu as they fell towards Vulcan. But no, the 'oh they're moving too fast to transport!' - nahhhhh!!! And they can beam Uhura ONTO the platform?! WTF?!

With a lot of this film, it's like it's written by an overexcited child high on sugar, coming up with all these cool action-sequence ideas for a film but the IDEAS themselves don't make sense with each other inside the same film, let alone the last film or earlier. Shame.

When I saw Carol Marcus in the trailers, and saw the death scene with Kirk and Spock in the extended trailer, somehow, I KNEW this was going to be a reheat of Wrath of Khan, and that the villain was going to be Khan.
