Linux on Windows

Linux on Windows

October 03 2013
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get Linux to run on Windows? I need Linux for some stuff, but I only have a Windows computer right now. I don't wanna do a dual boot that makes me reboot all the time whenever I wanna do something on the other OS. Maybe some kind of VMware? Any assistance would be appreciated!

I just did a quick Google and you may have already investigated this:

It doesn't seem to support Windows 7 or 8 and runs inside Windows. I will ask around at work as well. There have to be OS emulators out there B)

I run a Linux on VirtualBox VMs all the time. All 100% free (both as in freedom and beer). :)

Thanks to you both for the suggestions!

I actually got it working with Cygwin! I'm gonna give Vagrant, which uses VirtualBox VMs, a try later on!

VM ware is free. I use it to run multiple operating systems for older software/IT stuff in general. Linux was fully supported. I tend to use it as a baseline if and when I need too test.
