America needs to wake up indeed.

Ideologically, I've been a left-leaning libertarian for a long time. I mostly identify with the Democratic Party(of the two). But I also fully realize and concede that there is corruption at all levels of government and on both sides of the aisle. Nobody is perfect and both sides have issues.

Lately, more so than usual, those that I have associated with in the past have taken particular interest in attacking Obama. The latest is over the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare (just a slightly different version of Romneycare aka "Massachusetts health care reform" if, ya know, we're interested in the truth). People are certainly entitled to their opinions. Heck, they can even be vastly different than mine. I rather enjoy good, lively debates. But I have issues with what are seemingly intelligent people saying that America should wake up, that somehow trying to give healthcare coverage to the roughly 15% of American that aren't covered (aka the whole purpose of the "Affordable Care Act") is a bad thing.

Ironically, I came across a video showing what is really going on as far as the government shutdown. America needs to wake up indeed.

It's absolutely crazy, isn't it?

Even especially following our last election, I've strongly held my own opinion (and mostly to myself), the same opinion that this video ultimately validates as fact: We are WAY past simple discourse here. The extreme right is assaulting the founding principles of our Constitution for the sole reason that they loathe our not-white President.

I saw yesterday too that both Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin spoke at a Tea Party rally in D.C. chock-full of people hollering in the crowd for "Dictator Obama to put down the Quran and come out with his hands up." Needless to say that even if he was a Muslim, why the f* should that matter?

People are out of work, our economy remains in a delicate recovery. Say what you will about the current administration, but President Obama is not the guy to take the fall for all of this completely senseless bullshit, and he has negotiated and comprimised, sometimes too much with these jackasses since he's been in office.

I'm sad for my country, I'm embarrassed while the rest of the world watches us battle against our own seething greed, and maybe call it a product of media hysteria over the debt ceiling but I am genuinely scared over what the coming days will bring.

I'm with you Kasper, America needs to wake up. Here's hoping...

Yeah, this is really more than absolutely crazy. They were planning for this for quite some time and made sure that no one could "interfere" with what they planned on doing. I watched this video from another site and was  dumbfounded  when the video came to the part where the GOP had quietly passed this change to the usual procedural way of functioning for the House back on Sept 30th (which is the end of the fiscal year for the government). They knew that what they planned to do would not be successful unless they made sure no one could call for an end to the shutdown except for a specific person (or his designee). I am wondering how the people that keep electing these idiots are feeling about how they voted in the last few elections because they are the ones that enabled this to happen and continue to enable the dysfunctioning government. The only problem is they keep trying to explain away what they've done and continue to do. Several Psychiatric Associations have come out and said a lot of these people are very much in need of mental help because of the way they think politically and what problems that way of thinking creates for the rest of us. It's more than truly sad.... :(

So now that it's over for the moment... To be fair, i got curious and googled, 'Has the US ever defaulted?' I found this (among others):

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/14/us-debt-defaults_n_4097380.html

Doesn't mean i don't still fault our extreme right-wing under the circumstances because we have some crazy a-holes running the joint, but it's also important to remember history and keep perspective.
