*RESOLVED* GeForce GTX 660 stereoscopic mode

October 18 2013
Hi All,

I need a little assistance, I have recently updated windows 8 with windows 8.1.

When logging into STO I am now presented with the following

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-JFlu-G0cg6dE55YWx6R282c28/edit?usp=sharing

I am unable to find any settings in game or in my video drivers to disable this mode! and the game isnt the most user friendly like this.

My graphics card is a GeForce GTX 660, with the latest windows 64bit driver. (GeForce 327.23 Driver).

As with anything I will continue to look for a solution and have the thread closed once I do but until then if anyone can speed the process up it would be very much appreciated.

Does that graphics card has 3D support? If so than it's possibly the 3d function have been activated. If it doesn't then have you tried to put the graphic card setting back to default setting to see if that made any changes?

I have tried reset defaults in game and in video settings, and it has 3D support. I am in the process of reinstalling the driver to see if that assists...

It's weird, cause it looks like the 3d function is in active mode, so I'm guessing you have tried to turn off the 3d view?

Ì have looked everywhere to no avail.... hence reinstalling it. About to reboot and try :)

Looks like you need to go into the Graphic card software and disable 3D.

for info, this is now resolved through the good old method of remove and reinstall.... even though the new install is on default settings like the previous install... wo knows but I have ingame quality graphics again :)

Have you tried hitting control-T? It's the keyboard shortcut that enables/disables 3D on mine. I also have enable/disable 3D shortcut icons that appeared on my desktop after installing the card drivers.

I hate to suggest obvious solutions that you've probably already tried, but you never know!

Honestly Dave,

I always find the obvious solutions suggested are usually ones that people haven't tried so I always welcome them :)

The solution was fixed by means of re-installation, I have tried ctrl + T to see if that does do anything for future reference but all settings remained the same :)

I am having the exact same issue. I install win 8.1 yesterday and all was fine even after a couple reboots. This morning when I signed into STO I had the same issue as you did. Currently ave uninstalled the drivers and are now (at 4:40 am) reinstalling the NVidia software using the latest drivers.

EDIT: The first 2 installations failed for some unknown reason...thanks Microsoft. Working on the Third install now. If this fails then I will roll back the system to Wednesday and avoid Windows 8.1 all-together.

I met quite a lot of people online yesterday night having that same issue after installing windows 8.1. :/ Kind of just told them to go to Nvidia Control Panel -> Uncheck "Enable 3D" (Disable), and if that didn't work, reinstallation would be the best option. Also, Brandon (STO's Community Manager) was online too telling people about, so Cryptic is aware of it too.

Reinstalling the existing or updated drivers is the only way to resolve it seems. I tried the disable 3D method and it didn't do anything. I am finally up and running again.

I am glad I started this thread then! With the fact that Brandon is aware of it, is it a Win 8.1 issue or the recent STO maintenance? I did the 8.1 update during the extended downtime so I can't be sure what actually brought about the fault ;p

Thanks for the additional info everyone :)

Had the same issue with my Nvidia driver. A reinstall with the latest driver from Nvidia fixed it. It seems when you update to 8.1, the graphics driver gets replaced with the one from Windows Update, which is older than what is most recent from Nvidia. And after I installed the new driver, Windows Update still wants to install the older one (as an optional update). Dunno why Windows wants to do that, go figure.

Because of that I always go to the official Nvidia site or use the Nvidia Experience program to keep the drivers updated.
