Windows 8.1 and controllers (game pads)

Ok... I knew it all the time... Microsoft wants us to buy f****** Microsoft products...

Does anybody have an idea how I get a Speedlink SL-6535-SR to work (that's a Playstation based controller for PC).

Somebody suggested an emulator programm (which tells your PC that the used controller is an original xbox360-controller). Well, it didn't work... Actually I'm writing this post over my smartphone while I'm waiting for my notebook to finish the system recovery, lol

The game I want to use the controller with is GTA IV.
Of course I've downloaded the drivers for the controller from the website of the controller's manufacturer and installed them.
So, any suggestions how to get this gamepad to work?

I would be forever grateful^^

Greetings, A.M. :)

P.S.: It´s a USB controller - although I think that won´t make a difference.

And with Win XP I never had these issues, just bought stuff, plugged it into my computer which detected it and it worked (almost Macintosh feeling, lol). But Win 8 or 8.1: AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think, I hate it....

P.P.S.: I just had the idea that microsoft might have a twitter account....

All I can do is direct you to the support page: http://www.speedlink.com/?p=2&cat=3132&pid=23402&paus=1

I've used the same wired controller for Win XP, Vista and now on 8.1. Maybe its an issue with the controller software?

Hi Nick!

No idea, really. I'll just try to set my system back to a point two days ago. Maybe an installation of another programm messed up my Windows. Or the registry cleaner cleaned too much. Or the Ccleaner. Or...

Let's see if this works.

Greetings, A.M. :)

Wow... at this time 101 views and only 1 comment (thank you, Nick! :) ).

I´ve solved the problem after hours of internet research.

Since it´s a damn Windows Notebook I have - which will make my grey hairs grow much faster, I´m sure about that - I just went today to my electronics shop and bought a damn original Microsoft Xbox-360-controller for Windows.

So, problem solved for the moment, this thread could be closed.

For the future I´ve decided that my next laptop will be a Macintosh. Just plug in the stuff and it works with a Macintosh. WHY DID I YEARS AGO CHANGE BACK TO WINDOWS PCs??? Stupidity? Yep, definitely.

Cheers, A.M.

Oh no.. sorry I didnt look at this sooner.. I tried to do what you wanted to do several months back.

But using a PS3 controller. I got it to work.. but it takes a lot of downloading and installing, and mapping.. and in some cases having to press F7 on start up to change internal settings to accept 3rd party devices.

It was hard work.. install a driver to pretend its a microsoft product, install a mapper.. and select what button does what on the controller.. once its activated it thinks the controller is a mouse so you have to use the controller to navigate on your pc. In the end i was fed up of going through a lot of set up just before i wanted to play something.

it was easier and indeed safter to get a microsoft/Xbox controller in the long run.

I googled and youtubed all i needed..
like this.. basically download a "DS3" program, to make your comp think your using a microsoft pad..
and a "better DS3" to map your controller buttons.

in the long run I think you did the right thing in the end
btw im not a technical guy, so i could have ruined my comp :p

Thx, bro! (lol)

Basically - before buying the x-box-controller - I did the same with Xpadder. But setting up the keys alone for GTA IV frustrated me^^
