This is a neat little PDF I saw when reading up on GLBT news.

You see that big see of red in the Middle East and North Africa?

If you zoom right in where you can see Egypt and Saudi Arabia, there's a tiny tiny little country called Israel. Which is coloured in a lovely shade of blue!

This is where I live, and despite many many issues here, at least it's on it's way to getting something right.

Our government sucks! BUT, our supreme court doesn't! The supreme court constantly and consistently votes in favour of LGBT rights, including the recognition of same-sex marriage from abroad. Unfortunately the minority of religious members of parliament hold an disproportional amount of power in government at the moment and so pro-LGBT legislation is probably unlikely for the time being.

BUT Israel was one of the earliest countries to adopt universal employment rights and anti-discrimination laws which include LGBT people.

I think it's good to remember these things!

Rant over :D

P.S I think this is an old map, so some things have changed including Argentina having passed laws for same-sex marriage...

Out of curiosity, how old is this PDF? While California has banned gay marriage, our civil unions grant almost all the state benefits that marriage does. I'm surprised California doesn't have a blue dot on the US map.

I have to say this map surprised me. Countries still have the death penalty for homosexuals! I had thought Humanity had moved past things like that. I guess not.

To all those homos living in those countries and any country that would put us behind bars, my heart and thoughts are with you all.

Unfortunately not, many countries still have death penalties for homosexuals. For those that only give prison sentences, those prison sentences are death penalties of them selves, either from the inhospitable living conditions or the gang violence that usually targets homosexual prisoners. In countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, that are currently occupied largely by US forces, homosexuals are being killed at an alarming rate by their families and factions of the militia. An organization called, Iragi LGBT, http://iraqilgbt.org.uk, operates out of the UK and runs a railroad for targeted people, helping them leave the country and receive asylum in other countries. In the last three years, 700 glbt people have been murder in Iraq alone. Several times, their railroads have been compromised and the English and Americans that operate them have been killed as well.

The GLBT community must remember that the fight for equality does not end at our countries borders. We must help those who can not help themselves.

As you can see, this is something I'm very passionate about.
